Hans Christian Andersen Center for Research and Information, Sofia University, Bulgaria

Award Committee:

The Hans Christian Andersen Centre for Research and Information is based at Sofia University “Sankt Kliment Ohridski” and thus at Bulgaria’s only Institute for Nordic Studies. Since its foundation in 2008, the Centre has managed to establish itself as the leading place for research and dissemination on Hans Christian Andersen. Andersen’s writings and reception in South-East Europe, with close links to Denmark and other Nordic countries.

The centre houses a large and multilingual library as part of Sofia University’s Nordic collection. It is at the disposal of all who are involved in H.C. Andersen, Danish language, literature, cultural heritage, and related fields. The centre also serves as a broad dissemination body on many levels, especially for students studying Danish at Sofia University, but also for interested citizens from civil society, school students and as a resource for the 19th “Elin Pelin” gymnasium in Sofia, where students can learn Danish or Norwegian.
